Avalon Air Show 2017
Public consultation

The first stage of AF2021 planning was a public consultation period during late 2015 and early 2016. Air Force received more than 320 suggestions to mark the centenary.

Air Force is now examining the feasibility of some suggestions in more detail. We will select activities which are value for money and achieve maximum effect.

The most popular themes from the public consultation were:

Air show, flypasts and displays: In addition to the Australian International Air Show 2021, Air Force is planning to conduct a series of high profile flying displays during major public events in metropolitan areas, including Australia Day and ANZAC Day.

Regional and community engagement: An important part of our centenary will be recognising the close bonds between RAAF and the communities near our bases. Additionally, some AF2021 initiatives will reach parts of regional and rural Australia that do not see Air Force very often.

Youth programs, including STEM:  A major focus for the centenary will be actively engaging and inspiring young people – particularly through programs which foster a passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Documentaries and books: Air Force’s first 100 years is full of remarkable stories of bravery, dedication and innovation. We are considering the best ways to tell these stories – through major public exhibitions and popular culture initiatives such as documentaries, books and special publications.

History and heritage: AF 2021 will highlight RAAF’s rich heritage. Many public submissions related to the birthplace of Air Force – Point Cook. We are looking at options to recognise the significant role that Point Cook has had throughout our history and today.
