Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Leo Davies, has been appointed an Ambassador for White Ribbon Australia at Air Force Headquarters on 7 December 2016.
Presenting the Ambassador pin, Executive Manager Ambassadors and Advocates Program, White Ribbon, Mr Peterson Opio said it was a significant event.
“It’s important to have that leadership directed from the very top and it’s an honour to have you come on board as an Ambassador,” Mr Opio said.
“It’s important to have leaders in a position to influence change in our society. It’s your personal and professional commitment in his role as an Ambassador for gender equality, and to have respectful relationships. But more importantly to create a society and workforce that is inclusive and respectful to all women in the workforce,” Mr Opio said.
White Ribbon Ambassadors are men who recognise the importance of men taking responsibility and playing a leadership role in preventing men’s violence against women. They are formal representatives of White Ribbon Australia who have the knowledge, skills, attributes and determination to influence Australian men to critically evaluate their attitudes and behaviours toward women.
Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Leo Davies was honoured to become a White Ribbon Ambassador.
“White Ribbon is so specific because of the damage – the clearly factual, easily identified damage that men do to women in Australia, every day, every week, every year,” Air Marshal Davies said.
“So we’re going to make a difference. If the Royal Australian Air Force stands up, as the Army and Navy have, to become an accredited workplace – that says we will stand up, we will speak out, we will prevent violence against women. That means a lot - not just to the ADF but to Australia.
“It’s a great pleasure to be here – having completed my ambassador program – to become a White Ribbon Ambassador,” Air Marshal Davies said.
The appointment follows Air Force's ongoing commitment to preventing men’s violence against women and actively promoting gender equity in support of White Ribbon’s ‘Stand Up – Speak Out’ campaign. Air Force recognises that violence against women cannot be tolerated and is never acceptable, and neither is being aware of it and doing nothing.
