On 8 March 2014, Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 went missing during a routine flight between Malaysia and China. When the search moved to the southern Indian Ocean, four AP-3C aircraft deployed to RAAF Base Pearce to conduct searches from 18 March. On 18 March RAAF Base Pearce was notified it would provide basing and support to a multi-national search. Aircraft and crews from the US, Malaysia, China, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea were supported by staff at RAAF Base Pearce during the intensive air and sea search over the following months.
