The Australian Defence Force (ADF) is proud to support the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix, at Albert Park Circuit, Melbourne, from 30 March-2 April with daily Air Force flying displays and ADF ground displays.
AIR FORCE FLYING DISPLAYS
The all-time crowd favourite, Air Force Roulettes aerobatic team from the Central Flying School at RAAF Base East Sale, will fly in a formation of six Pilatus PC-21 aircraft.
The Roulettes will perform mind-bending aerial aerobatics with their wings less than three metres apart. Feel the thrill as the pilots pull up to 6 ‘G’s, showcasing the incredibly high level of teamwork, professionalism and flying skill that is achievable as a pilot in the Air Force.
Racing fans will also be treated to the rare sight of a Supermarine Spitfire Mk VIII historic aircraft from Number 100 Squadron based at Temora Aviation Museum, NSW. It is one of only three flying Spitfires in Australia and it is a rare privilege to see it flying in real life!
Flying is subject to variables including air traffic control requirements, weather, and operational availability. As such, flypasts and displays may be subject to cancellation at short notice.
Noise reduction and the environment are vital considerations in the planning and conduct of military flying.
Further information about the participating aircraft can be found on our aircraft page.
ADF GROUND DISPLAYS
ADF ground displays each day at the event will showcase some very exciting and cutting edge technological capabilities with interactive and immersive activities and presentations. Race goers will be able to get up close and personal with the equipment and have a chat with ADF personnel who operate these machines.
Some of the ADF display highlights include Team Army’s ‘Matilda’ Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon burnout car, Project Digger, as well as a blown big-block 1978 Ford LTD with 938hp and a Rover 6×6 supercharged truck, lovingly known as 'Armygeddon'.
Other interactive displays will include Air Force flying simulators, Air Force Balloon, Australian Defence Force Academy Formula SAE Racing team, Army Drone Racing, Army vehicles and military equipment, Defence Force Recruiting stalls with fun giveaways, and live music performances by the Navy Band.
