F-35A Lightning II aircraft to deploy to RAAF Base Amberley

The Newcastle airport runway works at 2 Operational Conversion Unit’s home location RAAF Base Williamtown, are part of the federal government’s $66 million upgrade to international standards. Personnel and aircraft from 2 Operational Conversion Unit will deploy to RAAF Base Amberley in order to continue essential training activities.

The aircraft will operate similarly to 82 Wing F/A-18F Super Hornets and EA-18G Growler aircraft, following the current departure and approach flight paths flown by the local squadrons.

Noise reduction and the environment are vital considerations in the planning and conduct of military flying. Air Force appreciates the ongoing support of the community.
