No. 79 Squadron to conduct flying training at RAAF Base Learmonth

A detachment from Air Force’s No. 79 Squadron (79SQN) will deploy to RAAF Base Learmonth to conduct flying training operations as part of Exercise Western Phoenix. Up to eight Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Hawk 127 Lead-In Fighter aircraft will be conducting a higher than normal tempo of operations during this period.

The Base is located approximately 30 kilometres south of Exmouth on the North West Cape peninsula of Western Australia.

Operating from airfields such as RAAF Base Learmonth is an essential activity for 79SQN to be able to fulfil its mission to conduct both Introductory Fighter Course, and support other elements of the Australian Defence Force organisation.

Flying is subject to change due to variables such as air traffic control requirements, weather and other aviation considerations.

Noise reduction and the environment are vital considerations in the planning and conduct of military flying. Air Force appreciates the ongoing support of the community during these training activities.

Further information about the Hawk 127 lead-in fighter can be found on our Hawk 127 Lead-In Fighter page.
