RAAF aircraft set to soar at the Wings Over Illawarra airshow

Australian Defence Force (ADF) is proud to support Wings Over Illawarra, 12-13 November, at Shellharbour Airport NSW, with aerial and ground displays by Navy, Army, Air Force and Defence Force Recruiting.

Air Commander Australia, Air Vice-Marshal Darren Goldie, AM, CSC, said air show patrons would be thrilled by the range of ADF aerial and ground displays.

“Wings Over Illawarra is one of the highlights of all the community events we support, as it’s one of the largest annual air shows in the region,” Air Vice-Marshal Goldie said.

“This year, we have some real treats for the audiences and communities around the Wollongong region, including aerial displays and interactive activities.

“The Air Force Roulettes, a crowd favourite aerobatic team from the Central Flying School at RAAF Base East Sale, will provide a flying display with up to six Pilatus PC-21 aircraft.”

In other flying displays, audiences will enjoy high speed displays from the F-35A Lightning II, and some of the historic 100SQN aircraft that are flying in from Point Cook and Temora Aviation Museums.

Ground-based entertainment will include some very exciting and cutting edge technological capabilities including Navy’s Airbus EC135 helicopter and Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Air Force C-130J Hercules, Pilatus PC-21 and the Air Force Balloon, and Army’s Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicle. Event attendees will be able to get up close and personal with the equipment and have a chat with our highly trained personnel who operate these machines.

“Event attendees will be able to get up close and personal with the equipment and have a chat with our highly trained personnel who operate these machines,” Air Vice-Marshal Goldie said.

Additional activities and displays will include the Army and Air Force Drone Racing Teams, flight simulators, military working dog demonstrations, Air Force Band live performances and a Defence Force Recruiting display.

“We are looking forward to showcasing our capabilities over the two-day air show and meeting the thousands of aviation enthusiasts expected to attend.”
