EA-18G Growlers conduct airfield training operations into regional airports

Up to two Number 6 Squadron EA-18G Growler aircraft will conduct aircrew familiarisation flights to Rockhampton and Mt Isa airports.

The RAAF Base Amberley squadron visits will involve landing and refuelling operations, enabling local airport operators to understand the specific requirements of military aircraft.

Media note

The 2024 National Defence Strategy prioritises Defence’s ability to operate from comprehensive network of RAAF bases, including the ability to utilise the expansive network of regional airports, private aerodromes and airstrips across northern Australia.

Defence is looking beyond existing Defence facilities and plans to work with industry stakeholders on how to access a wider network of airfields in support of National Security imperatives.

All flying is subject to change, including short notice cancellation, due to variables such as air traffic control, weather and operational requirements.

Safety, noise management and the environment are vital considerations in the planning and conduct of Defence flying activities.
