Air Force values its relationship with our local communities, and appreciates the support they provide when we conduct essential military training.
In appreciation of the support the exercise receives in the Northern Territory, Air Force is pleased to continue the tradition of providing flying display at Mindil Beach; and an Open Day at RAAF Base Darwin.
These events showcase some of the capabilities employed in Exercise Pitch Black 24, and allow the community to meet the people who fly, maintain, supply and work around these aircraft from around the world.
International visitors to Exercise Pitch Black 24 will experience Australian culture and contribute to the local economy through their engagement of these communities.
Community involvement
Exercise Pitch Black and the Northern Territory have been linked for 41 years, and build on relationships and practices that extend back further still.
For many in Air Force, the Northern Territory is our home and where our families live.
During the planning for Exercise Pitch Black 24, engagement has occurred with local and state governments, communities and businesses, indigenous representatives, graziers and schools.
Defence has established a school visits program from Darwin, and Katherine, and plan to conduct charity support activities.
Information has been provided to Ipswich communities as well to indicate different aircraft are operating out of RAAF Base Amberley during this time as well.
Community organisations with enquiries can contact Exercise Pitch Black 24 via pb.media@defence.gov.au.
The Exercise Pitch Black 24 website will be the central point of information, with information and updates also provided via online channels and social media.
