The RAAF Base Edinburgh indigenous ‘Keeping Place’, Defence’s latest initiative with the Kaurna people and broader indigenous communities in Adelaide, will be unveiled at a dedication event during NAIDOC Week 2024.
Developed in close collaboration with Kaurna elders, the ‘Keeping Place’ is designed to be the central meeting point on base for Defence and indigenous community members to come together for ceremony, education, kinship and heritage. It will also be used to store and display indigenous artefacts.

Accompanied by Kaurna custodians and RAAF personnel, media will be able to walk around the six key areas of the ‘Keeping Place’ including:
- Welcome Area
- Education Space
- Yarning Circle
- Indigenous War Memorial Space with three life-size silhouette artworks representing sailors, soldiers and aviators.
